Admission requirements
Intake capacity
The projected number of PhD candidate enrolment for the first three years of 2019/20, 2020/21, and 2021/22 will be 3, 3, and 4, respectively
- Priority will be given to category ‘A’, and then category ‘B’, and then ‘C’.
Category A
- A minimum of CGPA 3 and Completion of MSc in:
- Medical Parasitology Category B
- A minimum of CGPA 3 and Completion of MSc in:
- Medical Microbiology
- Medical Entomology
- Immunology
- Tropical & Infectious Diseases Category C
- A minimum of CGPA 3 and Completion of MSc in:
- Clinical Chemistry
- Hematology
- Molecular Biology
- Medical Biotechnology
- Veterinary Parasitology
- Biomedical Sciences
- Applied parasitology
- The applicant must meet all of the admission requirements of the University of
- Applicants should fulfill the following documents during application
- Application letter
- Motivation letter
- Research synopsis
- Two letters of recommendation from senior and experienced academician
- An official letter for sponsorship
- Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions of higher learning
- Secured funding source (if any)
- Curriculum vitae with lists of published papers

- Upon admission based on the candidate background the supervisor will recommend bridge courses to be audited
- Candidates from other than ‘Category A’ are expected to take Advanced Medical protozoology, and Advanced Medical Helminthology courses as a pre-requisite.

Graduation requirements
- A candidate should score a minimum CGPA of 00 with a minimum of “B” Grade for each course, and
- Should publish at least one article in peer reviewed journal
- The dissertation will be defended upon the approval of Department Graduate Committee (DGC)
- The dissertation will be evaluated by external and internal examiners
- A successful defense of his/her Dissertation
Degree nomenclature
The degree nomenclature in English will be “Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Parasitology” while
the Amharic nomenclature will be “የፍልስፍና ዶክትሬት ዲግሪ በሕክምና ፓራሳይቶሎጅ”
