About the school
Now a day, infectious and non-infectious diseases are huge treat for humankind and encored huge economic burden globally. The magnitude of diseases causing agents and dynamicity are increasing from time to time due to multiple factors. The diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control approached are also complicated and needs multidisciplinary health professionals and stockholders. Medical laboratory science is one of the important health disciplines that contributed a lot for the diagnosis and managements of patients for both infectious and non-infectious diseases.
Higher institutions or Universities are responsible to produce high quality health professionals to tackle communicable and non-communicable diseases burden. The School of Biomedical and Laboratory Sciences (SBLS) in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Gondar is aimed and established to give training in Medical Laboratory Sciences in both under graduate and post graduate (MSc and PhD) levels. There are seven programs at the master level (MSc in Infectious and Tropical Diseases, MSc in Medical Parasitology, MSc in Clinical Hematology and Immunohaematology, MSc in Immunology, MSc in Medical Microbiology, MSc in Clinical Chemistry, MSc in Clinical Laboratory Quality Assurance and Laboratory Management), and two PhD programs (PhD in Medical Microbiology and PhD in Medical parasitology). Under the SBLS, there is also one undergraduate program (BSc in Medical Laboratory Science). These programs are organized by six departments and one undergraduate coordinator.
Hence, the SBLS is highly engaged to produce high caliber Medical Laboratory Health Professionals at different level that can contribute a lot in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, control and surveillance of infectious and non-infectious diseases at the national and international level. To maintain the quality of education, we have well experienced academicians and researchers in different levels of academic ranks (Graduate assistants, Lecturer, Assistant professor, Associate professor and Professor) in different disciplines. Finally, I would like to thank the SBLS staff members, CMHS and the UOG higher officials for their commitment to contribute a lot for our University, country and the international community at large.
