About the department of Clinical Chemistry
The Department of Clinical Chemistry at the University of Gondar, established in 2011 (2003 E.C.) under the School of Biomedical and Laboratory Sciences, aims to strengthen academic programs, enhance research capacity, and contribute meaningfully to healthcare services. It plays a vital role in training both undergraduate students in Medical Laboratory Science and postgraduate students in Clinical Chemistry. The MSc program in Clinical Laboratory Science with a Clinical Chemistry track was launched in 2011–2012 (2003–2004 E.C.) in collaboration with the University of Leicester, UK, to equip students with internationally competitive knowledge and skills. Initially started with only two academic staff members, the department has since grown to include 12 faculty members and two technical assistants with diverse academic qualifications, including MSc- and PhD-level professionals, as well as staff currently pursuing higher degrees by research abroad. These faculty members are actively engaged in the University’s core mandates of teaching, research, and community service. Through its commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and community engagement, the Department of Clinical Chemistry remains a key contributor to the advancement of medical laboratory science and the improvement of healthcare in Ethiopia.
